Office Depot Rewards: How to Get “FREE” Batteries after Reward 11/17-11/23/24
We may earn money from the companies mentioned in this post.
Paying for batteries sucks. Don’t do it. Well, do it, but at least feel like you got free batteries after an Office Depot rewards 100% back deal.
Stock up on batteries when they’re 100% back in rewards at Office Depot. Lego trains don’t run on Christmas spirit alone.
Here’s how it works.
1. Become an Office Depot rewards member for free
Office Depot offers a 100% back via rewards sale every several weeks on Duracell batteries.
2. Buy batteries
For the week of 11/17/24, get 100% back in rewards on 16-24 count packs of Duracell Powerboost batteries AA or AAA, limit 2, $15-18.50 $16.89-$23.99. Inflation is alive and well. Shipping is free with a $45-$60 order depending on the way the wind blows (see their current promotion at the top of their website) or do curbside or in-store pickup for free pickup for any purchase amount.
Other deals you might peek at to get your cart up to $45-$60 for free shipping or to keep in mind to spend the rewards on later:
- Office Depot Remanufactured Ink 240xl (+ other model numbers): Sale price $20 when you subscribe (you can cancel right after it ships). Ink purchases have FREE shipping–I usually buy ink with my battery rewards!
- You can always find decent toilet paper deals.
- Check out the deal center here! Love the $15 restaurant gift card offer with $75 purchase! Or $20 Visa reward with $125 purchase.
Don’t forget to add the 15-25% off code for the week; it’s usually only off regular-priced breakroom supplies (so you might not use it if you’re only shopping sales) and shown as a button in the deals area or displayed at the top of the site. It usually excludes HP products, ink, Samsung, and good stuff like these. You can see all the weekly rewards deals and other sales here.
Sign up for their emails to get an immediate coupon and keep abreast of deals that come around. I’ll also try to keep this post updated when a 100% back deal is going. Purchase the batteries, and within several days, you get a reward equal to the amount paid minus tax.
Office Depot now offers an online send-in option for ink rewards. You can now send in your used ink cartridges when you collect a minimum of 10 plus make a $10 purchase in the same month.
3. Get 100% back in Office Depot rewards on said batteries
After you receive your notification email of your 100% back in rewards (usually after your items ship), use your reward credit to buy something you would normally buy anyway. For me, it’s coffee, printer ink, or toilet paper. Check the sales in the Office Depot weekly ad to get the most bang for your buck.
If you’re anxious about being able to spend your rewards, don’t be. You have three months to use them, so mark it on your calendar or phone. You’ll also get email reminders. If it comes time to spend your rewards and you cannot find a good deal to spend them on, you can always forfeit them. This has never happened to me: you have three months to use your rewards! No rush!
Office Depot battery rewards purchase example:
For example, here’s what one of my recent purchases looked like. Don’t forget to use a coupon if there’s one out (Office Depot posts them at the top of the website). These coupons normally only apply to full-price items, and you don’t wanna buy full-price items from Office Depot. Hence, you’ll rarely use the coupon unless you’re buying something like remanufactured Office Depot ink when it’s not on sale.
4. Get even MORE back on said batteries
Check Topcashback and/or Rakuten before your purchase for cash back…usually 4-6% cash back and for coupons if you don’t find one at the top of the Office Depot website. Remember: the coupon codes usually work on one regular price item. But the cash back works on the entire purchase amount. Also, you get back in rewards what you spend out of pocket, so even if you can’t find a code, you’ll still get 100% back in rewards for buying the batteries during a reward deal.
But wait, there’s more. Check your credit card offers for further savings! I’m a Chase Ink Business Cash card holder and sometimes have a 10% cash-back offer for Office Depot–I used to get similar rewards from American Express, too. Plus I get 5% back at Office Depot and other office supply stores just by using this Chase Ink Business Cash card. Right now, they’re offering a whoppin’ $750 bonus to new users who make $7500 in purchases in the first three months. You’d likely have to get creative and put every purchase (utilities, gift cards, gas) on the card to do it, but what a great bonus! The card also gives 5% back on internet and phone bills, and 2% on gas. I used my social for my business number and my eBay username as my company name.
5. Spend your Office Depot rewards on a deal = feels like free batteries after Office Depot rewards
You’ll be notified via email when the rewards are available–sometimes immediately, sometimes one week after purchase. For example, one time I saw my Folgers coffee was on sale for $5.39 for 30.5 oz canisters (this was in 2019), so I bought several of these with my reward. I signed up for a monthly subscription to take 10% off the price, and I canceled the subscription after I received my order.
As you can see, I got a great deal on coffee ($5.39 for 30 oz tubs)–something I buy anyway–with my battery rewards, it feels like I received free batteries. This is because I would’ve spent that money on coffee anyway.
Another time, I used my rewards to pay for printer ink. I stocked up for two years worth on four ink cartridges–something I needed to buy anyway. The Office Depot brand remanufactured ink is a great deal, especially when you subscribe. After buying ink with my rewards from the batteries, it feels like I got the batteries FREE. And freebies make the world go ’round.
Be sure to sign into your account when you checkout and check “Use my Office Depot rewards” in the payment area.
Rules/Tips for Office Depot rewards
- Pay attention to limits on purchases that can earn 100% back in rewards. Sometimes there’s a limit of four, but usually two.
- You can use available coupons, and your 100% back in rewards will be whatever you pay out of pocket before tax.
- If you pay for a purchase that’s supposed to give rewards with rewards, you’ll only get back what you didn’t pay for with rewards. For instance, if I paid $10 of my $34 battery subtotal with rewards I’d earned from a previous offer, I’d only earn back $24 of the rewards. In most cases, it’d behoove you not to pay with rewards for a purchase which is earning rewards.
- Go through Rakuten to earn 4% cash back on your purchase. You can also use Rakuten for your second purchase when you spend the rewards, but they’ll probably only give cashback on the amount the rewards don’t cover. Every little bit counts!
Never get caught without batteries again. Get stocked up now so you don’t have to pay for them without reimbursement later, like a sucker.
